How Do I Choose a School?
What Division can I play in?
Academically and Athletically
Be honest with yourself. Everyone would love to be a Power 5 athlete, but not everyone is capable. Choose schools that you qualify for academically and are capable of competing at athletically.
Sometimes there are more academic and athletic opportunities in divisions you may not already be considering.
Always leave your options open.
What am I looking for Academically?
Choose schools that have an academic program that you would like pursue. If you are uncertain, choose schools that have academic programs that interest you.
Remember: You are a student-athlete, being a student is the primary reason you are attending college.
How far am I willing to go from home?
Discuss with your family how far away from home are you comfortable playing. Use travel time, not miles, as some schools are located further from major roadways or airports.
Things to consider:
Cost for you to travel to/from school?
How difficult is it for my family/friends to watch me compete each week?
What are the pros and cons?
Once you've narrowed down your choices, do the pros and cons of each school you are interested in.
Most Importantly: If athletics is taken away, do I feel comfortable spending the next 4-5 years of my life at this school?
